Welcome to the web home of Daniel Zeichner, the Labour candidate for Cambridge in the May 2010 elections. Sadly Daniel was defeated in the elections, but here you can find information on the policies he campaigned on and the work Labour has been doing in Cambridge. Daniel wishes to thank everybody who voted for him and share this message with his many supporters in Cambridge: Thank you! My thanks to everyone who voted Labour in the elections on Thursday. The end result in Cambridge was disappointing for Labour, but outside the southern half of England, it is clear that the Conservatives have failed to win the General Election. After thirteen years in office, and such difficult global economic circumstances, few thought that Labour could survive, let alone prevent the Conservatives win power. Whatever the outcome of the discussions to determine what kind of Government should emerge, it seems unlikely to me that we will wait five years until the next General Election. That means that the Cambridge Labour Party must prepare quickly for the possibility that we have another chance to unseat the Lib Dems. My view is that although they have a healthy majority on paper, much of their support is fragile. Huge numbers of Cambridge voters found it hard to choose between Labour, the Greens and the Lib Dems – and the complicated patterns of split voting across the national and local elections confirms this. There is all to play for. Thank you again for your support. I have enjoyed (almost!) every moment of it. If you have been enthused and excited by this election campaign, why not be part of it next time? Please come and join us! Daniel Zeichner |
