Daniel Zeichner MP joined other politicians at a parliamentary reception to celebrate the work of Cats Protection and help the charity come up with names for unwanted cats that come into its care.

The event, held at the House of Commons, was hosted on the charity’s to highlight its work in campaigning on issues affecting cat welfare in the UK. Daniel added his suggestion of 'Norris' - after Cambridge United's agile record penalty shot stopper Will Norris - to a list of moggy monikers to be used for cats and kittens that come into the charity’s adoption centres in 2017.

Daniel Zeichner MP has visited the Cambridge Delivery Office to thank local postal workers for their hard work during Royal Mail’s busiest period of the year

This year Royal Mail has been celebrating its 500th anniversary, with this festive period marking half a millennium of delivering Christmas cards and parcels. The last recommended posting dates for Christmas are:  Second Class - Tuesday 20 December, First Class - Wednesday 21 December and Special Delivery - Thursday 22 December.

Daniel Zeichner MP joined a Guide Dogs event in Parliament to show his support for taxi and minicab drivers receiving disability equality training when getting their licence. A Private Member’s Bill that sought to introduce such training was recently debated in the House of Commons, with Mr Zeichner responding for Labour, but the Bill was talked out by Conservative backbenchers and not voted on due to a lack of time.

At the event, guide dog owners told the MP for Cambridge how taxi and minicab drivers refused to carry them because they had their guide dog with them. They explained that they had missed important appointments due to the refusals and how it had left them anxious and reluctant to use taxis and minicabs again.

Dr Susanna Mierau, a scientist from the University of Cambridge, swapped her lab bench for the green benches when she joined Daniel Zeichner MP in Parliament. Then the MP shadowed the scientist in her laboratory.

Cambridge’s MP met the Senior Research Fellow, from the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, as part of a unique pairing scheme run by the Royal Society - the UK’s national academy of science, with support from the Government Office for Science. The scheme pairs scientists with parliamentarians and civil servants so that they can learn about each other’s worlds and explore how research findings can inform policy making.

As part of European Restart a Heart Day Daniel Zeichner MP visited The Oliver King Foundation at their launch event to show support. 

Signing up to become a Defibrillator Champion for Cambridge Daniel said: “I am proud to become a lifesaving Defibrillator Champion for Cambridge. It is vital that we take action to prevent any loss of life where one can be saved.”
