The Government are both clueless and complacent about the effects of their visa policy on universities, Cambridge Labour MP Daniel Zeichner today claimed. 

Mr Zeichner has been contacted by a number of constituents saying Higher Education Institutions are so nervous about Home Office rules that this is preventing universities from enrolling foreign students. This means the UK is missing out on important income as students choose to study in other countries.

Figures gathered by the Alzheimer’s Society show that Addenbrooke’s is one of the five worst performing hospitals trusts for people with dementia falling whilst in hospital.

The charity’s freedom of Information request revealed 279 vulnerable patients suffered falls at Cambridge’s local hospital.

Daniel Zeichner MP has backed the Air Quality Bill, published yesterday.

 

Seven areas in Cambridge currently have illegally-high levels of nitrogen dioxide. A recent report from the Royal Colleges shows that diesel fumes cause 40,000 premature deaths every year from lung cancer, strokes and heart disease.

A concerned headteacher and parents are fearful for children's safety outside a Cambridge primary school.

Francesca Catterson became headteacher at St Luke's Primary School at the beginning of January this year and within the first 4 weeks in post, had 11 emails from worried parents about the dangers facing children coming to the school in the morning and when they leave. Mrs Catterson says there has already been a near miss and she is very concerned that a pupil will be seriously injured before too long.
