Shadow Minister Hilary Benn visited Cambridge to highlight Labour's housing plans today.

Mr Benn and Daniel Zeichner met Cambridge people living in private rented accommodation and outline Labour's plans for the biggest house building programme for a generation and the party's plan for secure three-year tenancies for those who want them and rent caps so they cannot rise by more than the rate of inflation during this period.

Today I signed the Face Equality pledge to show my support for ending discrimination against people with a disfigurement.
One in every 111 people has a significant facial disfigurement and research by the charity Changing Faces has shown that 9 out of 10 people unconsciously hold negative attitudes towards people with facial disfigurement, meaning there are many people in Cambridge facing major challenges to leading a normal life.

Labour will fix ‘Pothole Britain’ by creating a £300 million fund to mend six million more potholes – plus give extra funding for cycling and walking.

Labour today (Tues) pledged to fix the dire state of local roads through a fully costed Pothole Fund, which will see 24 million potholes mended in the next five years.

David Cameron and Nick Clegg have neglected local roads since 2010 to such an extent that there is now a massive pothole backlog, with a third of local roads in urgent need of repair.  Unlike the plans from the Tories and Liberal Democrats, Labour’s extra investment will ensure that spending on local roads will increase over the course of the next Parliament and bring an end to the growing pothole crisis.

Labour's “Green Plan” has been launched today, nine years to the day from David Cameron’s infamous husky-hugging trip to the Arctic.

However since then, the mask has slipped, and we've seen a record of Tory failure. David Cameron appointed Owen Paterson, who has repeatedly questioned the existence of climate change, as Environment Secretary. He ignored the advice of the Committee on Climate Change and the Tories (backed by the Lib Dems - including my Lib Dem opponent here in Cambridge) even tried to sell off the nation's forests.

It’s clear there is an urgent need for a Labour Government again that will put protecting our environment at the heart of our agenda. Building on the commitments in our manifesto, Labour's “Green Plan” includes:

• Setting a legally binding target to decarbonise our electricity supply by 2030.

• Delivering energy efficiency upgrades to at least five million homes over ten years.

• Creating a million new green jobs by 2025.

• Giving the Green Investment Bank borrowing powers.

• Developing a 25 year plan for the recovery of nature with clear five year milestones to measure progress.
