Labour’s Shadow Business secretary Chuka Umunna MP was in Cambridge yesterday meeting business people and promoting Small Business Saturday on December 7. The UK is celebrating its first Small Business Saturday  this year, and Mr Umunna  says it is a great chance for small businesses to promote themselves and generate trade. In the US, where it is an established commercial holiday, it generated $5.5 billion in sales in 2012. He visited independent retailers in King Street with Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner where they heard about the challenges facing small shops, and the work being done through the Business Improvement District to promote local shopping facilities.

Ed Miliband’s offer to help employers to meet the cost of paying the living wage is the chance for Cambridge employers to make Cambridge a Living Wage City, says Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner. Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner welcomed shadow industry minister Iain Wright MP, and Lord Tony Young who leads for Labour on skills in the House of Lords as well as members of the LFIG executive for a full day of visits to key Cambridge employers. Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner has re-iterated his strong support for improvements to the A14. Speaking to Chris Mann on Radio Cambridgeshire's Drivetime programme, he defended Shadow Transport Secretary Maria Eagle's comments that she would want to look closely at the tolling plans. He said that many were sceptical about tolling and that the Government were being coy on how they would raise the three hundred million pounds expected to come in from tolling later.
