Campaigning for Cambridge Blog

Campaign Update - 02:58 pm, Wed 18th Nov 2009

Dear All,

Daniel on Marshall walkThis week I have been campaigning hard to save Marshall’s airport from Lib Dem efforts to push them out of the city, which would have a catastrophic affect on the 1, 700 people who would lose their jobs as a result of the relocation as well as the wider economic health of the city. During these tough times I find it shocking and totally irresponsible that both the Lib Dem Council and MP are in effect lobbying for job losses. I attended the ‘Ramble Around Cambridge Airport’ and signed the petition to ‘Keep Marshall’s Flying’. I promise to continue to support Marshall and their workforce.

Another important issue this week has concerned cuts to bus routes around Arbury and Queen Edith wards in the city, as well as ongoing issues concerning rising prices and access for people with disabilities. I think there must be more consultation on the issue of transport, consultation that puts people who use the services at the centre of the discussion rather than excluding them. I met with Andy Campbell Managing Director Stagecoach Cambridgeshire to discuss these issues, and believe that some very productive developments will be forthcoming. I will be campaigning to speed up the implementation of a smart-card system in Cambridge, and opposing massive cuts in service provision.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and please don’t hesitate to contact me about local issues you think are important.

Best,

Daniel Zeichner
