Following the announcement that Dr Neil Modha is stepping down as chief clinical officer at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG, Daniel Zeichner MP said:  “I am not surprised that Neil Modha has chosen to stand down, but the real responsibility for the problems lie elsewhere. Neil and other local clinicians were given the impossible task of making a flawed system work.

NHS England and Monitor approved each stage, and the privatisation arm of NHS England carried out the whole process on behalf of the CCG. The Chief Clinical Officer has carried the can for it.

We now need a full report from the National Audit Office and to know what Ministers knew, and when.”
