City MP to miss key growth debate

City MP David Howarth will be missing from a major debate this week on future growth in Cambridge. Cambridge Labour candidate Daniel Zeichner says that it is extremely disappointing that the current MP is not taking part in discussion over one of the biggest issues facing the city in the years ahead:

“All the Parliamentary candidates were offered a range of dates some months ago, but I am told that Mr Howarth was only able to offer one date. I am sure that we would all have been prepared to accommodate Mr Howarth’s diary. The Member of Parliament, if they choose to do so, can play a key leadership role working with the local authorities and Government to get local developments moving. There is little evidence that Mr Howarth has been doing this – Friday’s meeting would have been an excellent opportunity to hold the current representative to account.”

The debate is organised by the Federation of Cambridge Residents' Associations, it will be held at the Emmanuel Church in Trumpington Street, from 7-9.30pm on Friday October 23rd.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
