“Guardian columnist and author of “Chavs: The Demonisation of the
Working Class” Owen Jones visited Cambridge and urged
students to vote for Labour’s Daniel Zeichner on the 7th of May.

Owen delivered a speech to a packed out lecture hall, stating that there are
“just two weeks to kick out the Tories and fight for a politics of
hope.”

He denounced the unfair Bedroom Tax and criticized the unfairness
of Tory benefit sanctions and private sector “poverty pay” as “socialism
for the rich and crash and burn free marketism for the poor.”

He also criticized the Lib Dems for damaging a generation’s faith in
politics, and highlighted the importance of potential Green voters
voting Labour in marginal seats such as Cambridge, in order to ensure a
victory for the left in the city and keep the Tories out of government.”
