Daniel Zeichner MP supports new sex education project led by Cambridge-based sexual health charity

Daniel Zeichner MP visited DHIVERSE, the HIV and sexual health charity for Cambridgeshire, to support a new sex education project.

DHIVERSE is developing and piloting a new project called SLIP (Sex Law and Internet Porn) which aims to support young offenders as well as any young person who did not fully engage with sex and relationships education at school and where risky or inappropriate behaviour and poor sexual health affect a young person’s opportunities and wellbeing.

Founded in 1986 by a group of volunteers as Cambridge AIDS Helpline, DHIVERSE aims to promote good sexual health and works to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections and HIV. It provides support for people affected by HIV and ISA and challenges the stigma and prejudice around HIV as well as sexism, homophobia and transphobia.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “I am very pleased that DHIVERSE has asked me to support its new project to improve sexual health and education among young people, especially young offenders. It’s very important for young people to understand how they can practice good consent and keep safe and to know that there is always support there for them.”

Meg Veit, Young People’s Service Manager, added: “I am very excited to begin promoting SLIP and grateful to Daniel Zeichner for helping us raise awareness about such a vital topic. Young people need and deserve up to date information about keeping themselves and others safe in an ever changing environment. SLIP will enable us to help those who cannot access the information through school.”
