Ed Miliband has again chosen Cambridge to make a major announcement to tackle the housing crisis. Earlier in the year he unveiled plans to strengthen rights for tenants in privately-rented homes, offering longer tenancies and protection against unexpected rent hikes.

Now he is offering councils the chance to ensure that half of new homes for sale go to local first-time buyers. On his visit to Cambridge, he also announced Labour’s 7 day cancer test pledge – and is pictured visiting the Cancer UK Research Institute on the Addenbrookes bio-medical campus.
