The Foreign Secretary refused to give an assurance that there would be no return of Libyan soldiers to Bassingbourn and failed to answer what had happened to missing cash from the Libyan authorities in Parliament.

Daniel Zeichner MP challenged the Foreign Secretary on his suggestion that the UK may offer Libya help with further training, reminding him of the terrible events in 2014 when Libyan personnel being trained at Bassingbourn Barracks, were left unsupervised in Cambridge and a number carried out violent sexual assaults.

Mr Zeichner said: “There is still widespread anger at what happened and I wanted the foreign secretary to reassure the people of Cambridge that there would be no further training of Libyan personnel in Cambridgeshire. Sadly that was not forthcoming. We also need an update on what has happened to attempts to claw back the £15 million that was left owing from Libyan authorities after the 2014 fiasco.”
