Cambridge United season ticket holder Daniel Zeichner MP has reacted with delight that the club has been chosen as the first in the country to trial the return of fans to the terraces.

Cambridge United will stage two test events in September as part of a pilot scheme to host fans for the first time at a competitive match since March.

Both terracing and seating will be in use, with back-to-back fixtures selected in order to ‘allow for any learnings to be implemented quickly under the same conditions’.

The first match will be see 1000 supporters at the Abbey Stadium for the EFL Trophy match against Fulham Under-21s on Tuesday 8 September. Then on Saturday 12 September 12, up to 2,500 fans will be able to watch Cambridge’s opening League Two fixture against Carlisle.

Social distancing measure will be in place for the fans.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “This is very exciting and the eyes of the country will be on Cambridge to see how this goes. I’m hoping to be there to cheer on the Us in person. Obviously I’ll be hoping for a win but equally I want the new covid safety measures to work. This is great news for football fans.”
