Speaking in the Commons today, (3/11/2020), Daniel Zeichner MP has blasted the government over plans to slash the number of Cambridgeshire PCSOs in half.

Mr Zeichner argues the plans to cut the workforce of police community support officers comes at the worst possible time and the government should stump up the cash to save our PCSOs who are working to ensure local people observe the ever-changing Covid regulations.

While there has been cash for ‘Covid marshals’ and new police officers, the Government have hopelessly neglected the ready-made, uniformed, and properly trained team, which is already part of the police workforce.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “This is the wrong decision at the wrong time. We know some people aren’t complying because they’re confused by the rules. Others don’t think the restrictions should apply to them. That is why we need enough uniformed officers to ensure the regulations are properly enforced. PCSOs create a visible and reassuring presence and reduce the pressure on the police to respond to extra pandemic measures.”
