The artistic work of environmentally concerned pupils from Mayfield Primary School has praised in the House of Commons by MP Daniel Zeichner.

Ahead of Tree Charter day taking place this Saturday 28th November people from across Cambridge have been creating their own Forest of Imagination by taking photos of themselves with special tree hangings designed by local young people.

Working with artist Caroline Wendling, from Wysing Arts Centre, the Mayfield pupils have explored ideas about forests, fear and freedom. Then they put paint to canvass to create their designs.

Photos of their unique tree hangings will be posted in a special online Gallery.

Cambridge City Council is a signatory to the Tree Charter. The annual nationwide celebration day which kicks off National Tree Week unites people to celebrate the value and importance of trees and woods.

Speaking in a debate about the Environment, Mr Zeichner highlighted the tree hangings the pupils had made and urged the minister to celebrate their work.

Daniel Zeichner MP: “Mayfield pupils know that trees are tree-mendous. As the world struggles with a climate emergency there can be no better time to imagine how things could be different. The next generation is not bound to repeat the mistakes of the past. What better time to show our love and respect for trees and make a commitment to changing their future for the better.”
