Goodbye to Cambridge post-mark?

People across the world receiving letters and packages from Cambridge will be getting a new experience in future – as their mail will be post-marked Peterborough! That is the risk if Royal Mail plans to close the Cambridge sorting office go ahead, warns Cambridge Labour Parliamentary spokesperson Daniel Zeichner.

He says he was astonished to learn that the world famous Cambridge brand will be dropped:

“No disrespect to Peterborough, but across the world everyone knows Cambridge – we’re a special place. The post-mark is the first thing most people see when they receive a letter or package. It seems ridiculous that a world-leading city should drop the opportunity to be promoted in this way on thousands of items every day. There are clear and sensible alternatives on offer to Royal Mail to shutting the Cambridge sorting office. They may not be bothered about the wider impact of the change, but Cambridge people and Cambridge businesses certainly are.”
