Daniel Zeichner, the Labour candidate seeking re-election as MP for Cambridge, celebrates Europe Day today.

The day celebrates peace and unity, and commemorates the 1950 Schuman Declaration, on this day 67 years ago. The declaration led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the first European community, which later became the modern European Union.

Daniel Zeichner says: “I have always been pro-European, and this day gives us all a chance to reflect on the unity and collaboration made possible by European agreements such as the Schuman Declaration.”

“I remain committed to values and ideals behind the EU, and hope that this day will present the opportunity for us to consider what we have in common rather than what divides us.”

“In light of the vote to leave the EU I believe we should embrace the ties that bind us and I wish a happy Europe Day to all our friends from the EU in Cambridge.”
