Liberal Democrat Parliamentary selection

Tonight, Cambridge residents will finally be presented with the full field of candidates for the general election, following the replacement of both the Liberal Democrat and Conservative candidates

Cambridge Labour Parliamentary candidate Daniel Zeichner welcomes the selection of a new parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Democrats – but  promises that they will face tough questions:

“All the Liberal Democrat candidates have one thing in common – they are local Liberal Democrat councillors. That means they share responsibility for the serial local failures of the local Liberal Democrats:

·         losing over £640,000 of our money on the folk festival fiasco;

·         losing another £2,000,000 and probably much more on the Iceland Banks fiasco;

·         trying to drive Marshalls and skilled jobs  out of the city;

·         backing an unworkable and unfair congestion charge on city residents;

·         leading a campaign to block vital A14 improvements;

·         undermining the police by cutting their power to tackle both street-drinking and anti-social behaviour in the city, and

·         failing to back a strong enlarged unitary authority for Cambridge.

And that is before we look at some of the damaging national policies they support, that Nick Clegg is cooking up, such as a local income tax which would let the wealthiest streets in Cambridge get off paying taxes!
Let battle commence!.”
