Daniel Zeichner MP has slammed Government cuts to the solar industry on a visit to Brandon CourtHe looked at the solar panels installed on the building with Stuart Elmes, from Viridian Solar which is part of the Solar Trade Association.

The Government has moved to slash support for solar panels with a consultation aimed at cutting the subsidies by almost 90 per cent. If implemented, such a step would remove virtually all incentive for home owners to install the panels which renewable energy experts warn could kill off a promising industry. In addition support for bigger rooftop and solar farm projects will also be reduced.

Mr Zeichner has written to Amber Rudd, the Energy Secretary, to express his support for solar as the most popular form of energy and one of the most cost-effective ways of decarbonising our power supply, just needing one final push of stable policy support before it can compete with fossil fuels.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: ‘These ridiculous solar cuts will send UK energy policy in completely the wrong direction and prevent almost a million homes, schools and hospitals from plugging in to clean, renewable energy.’
