Cambridge MP has branded an investigation into the collapse of the Uniting Care contract in Cambridgeshire as “inadequate” as NHS England announced they had appointed an independent reviewer to investigate the debacle.

The announcement says that the review will be from a commissioner perspective and will interview ‘staff members’.

There is no confirmation that this will include the role of the Special Projects Team, and no indication whether the review will consider the role of NHS England, nor of Monitor, nor of the role of Ministers. 

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner will challenge the Secretary of State directly on this at Health questions on Tuesday morning.

Mr Zeichner says: “This narrow review announced by NHS England is wholly inadequate – it looks at only one part of the process. Even on the commissioning side, it needs to go much wider, and look at the role of the Special Projects Team, and the part played by NHS England, by Monitor, and of course Ministers.  

This is NHS England investigating itself – what we actually need is a genuinely independent investigation by the National Audit Office.”
