Save Our Streetlights

Cambridge streets are set to be plunged into darkness as the Conservative Cambridgeshire County Council turn off our streetlights between midnight and 5am.

But worried students and Labour campaigners are fearful that student safety could be jeopardised.

Ratiya said: “What exactly is the point of streetlights if you switch them off at night? Part of going to University is the social scene and I won’t feel safe to walk home after a good night out if the streets are pitch black.”

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Streetlights ensure that people feel safe walking home, especially at this time of the year when the nights are drawing in. I urge the council to think again. This plan is terrible for Cambridge”

Meanwhile Labour County Councillor Ashley Walsh pledged to “fight the plan all the way.”

If you disagree with the decision to switch off the streetlights then add your name to our petition below.
