David Cameron has broken his promises on dealing with cycling safety.  The 2010 Manifesto pledged to “reduce the number of cyclists and other road users killed or injured on our roads every year” but the Tories have cut funding for cycling safety.

Daniel Zeichner MP -; Shadow Minister for Cycling: “These new figures showing that 64% think cycling on roads is too dangerous just prove to underline that the Government is failing cyclists. Investment in cycling infrastructure and training is absolutely vital to improve levels of safety and the mothballing of the Government’s own cycling safety forum indicates that cycling safety just isn’t a priority for Ministers.

“Getting more people cycling is good for public health, it’s good for reducing congestion, and it’s good for improving road safety. The Government needs to think long and hard about the effects of financially side-lining cycling.

“Ministers should urgently put in place a new dedicated cycling safety group and reinstate road safety targets as part of a wider strategy to protect vulnerable road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.”
