Daniel Zeichner MP met with small businesses and industry representatives in Parliament today, to criticise a proposed tax hike for businesses installing solar panels on their properties.

The new tax rates will be published by a government agency before the end of September and will come into force on 1 April 2017. Labour MPs are calling on the government to intervene before the end of September to allow more transparent scrutiny of these plans to increase this solar tax by six to eight times the current rate.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “It is unacceptable that the Tories would dramatically increase the tax bill on businesses and state schools choosing to generate their own clean power. Theresa May’s anti-business government is changing the goal posts after investment decisions have been made.

“I am proud to stand up for the businesses in Cambridge that are installing solar panels on their rooftops. The government must re-think these harmful and misguided plans.”
