Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, has welcomed the Government’s u-turn on pesticides that cause serious harm to bees. Mr Zeichner has called repeatedly for the Government to save our bees by banning dangerous neonicotinoid based pesticides. Today, Michael Gove MP, the Secretary of Stage for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, announced that the UK will back a blanket ban on these insect-harming pesticides across Europe.

Daniel Zeichner says “it’s frustrating that the Government has taken so long to respond, but I’m relieved that they have finally listened to this latest fresh evidence, which so clearly shows the damage done to bees and their habitats.

I have been calling for a ban on neonicotinoids for years, so I’m very glad that this is now in sight; however, if this had been done earlier, extensive damage to the environment could have been avoided.”
