Following the Queens Speech today, Daniel Zeichner MP said:

“We are at a crossroads as pandemic restrictions ease here in the UK so I was hoping for a radical thought-through plan from the Government. But sadly this Queens Speech lacked ambition and doesn’t reflect the priorities of the people of Cambridge.

Of course, we need to help people re-skill but for this out of touch government lifelong learning seems to be about saddling workers with lifelong debt.

There was a gaping hole where we were meant to have a long-promised plan for care for elderly parents and grandparents.

There was no immediate help for people trapped in homes they can’t sell by the cladding crisis.

They want to take away long-held, hard-won rights to protest.

And while they are not helping people get on, at the same time they are backing a developers’ charter which will make it easier to build over the countryside and our precious green spaces.

This isn’t a 21st century green recovery plan, it’s a mess.”
