Daniel's Vision for Cambridge

I love Cambridge. Representing the greatest city on earth is a huge honour and privilege. Cambridge is amazing, with its high tech entrepreneurs fizzing with ideas, its world class universities and thriving communities. But I know Cambridge, Cambridge isn't just the picture postcard scenes of punting along the Cam, it is about watching the U's down the Abbey on a Saturday afternoon. It is about the amazing young people learning new skills at Cambridge Regional College and strolling along to listen to chamber concerts at Kettle's Yard.

But I worry. Cambridge's past success is no guarantee for the future, with the dark clouds of Brexit looming we need an MP who will always put Cambridge first.  I have a track record of opposing Brexit. At each vote in the Commons I voted Remain, risking my Shadow Ministerial career.  Because I stick to my principles.

This hard Tory Brexit risks people's jobs and I know in parts of Cambridge people are already struggling to get by. With sky high rents, insecure short term jobs and prices going up in the shops and at the pumps, it can be tough.  In a rich country like ours it shouldn't have to be like this.  That is why I am proud of our plans for a real living wage of £10 an hour and for free school meals for every primary school child, so no-one needs to worry about filling up their child's packed-lunch box.

If Cambridge is to continue to thrive we need to sort out our chronic transport problems. I successfully steered legislation through Parliament to give us the chance to bring back control of our local buses. We need innovative solutions, not the ill thought out plans of the Tory County Council, who don't understand Cambridge. We need to scrap the £1 charge on Park and Ride, it's daft.

I'm a lifelong member of Greenpeace and an executive member of Labour's Environmental campaigning group. Floods, famines caused by Climate Change are bring hunger, misery and death.  The Tories don't care - we cannot allow global temperatures to continue to spiral that's why I was proud to launch the Cambridge Climate message. We need to continue to work with our European partners to ensure the pledges made in Paris are kept to. Closer to home I'm am a champion for the Ruderal Bumblebee which is facing threats from the loss of habitats.

This Tory government is wrecking our NHS just like they always do. There is also a crisis in social care, our elderly parents and grandparents deserve better than this. It always takes a Labour Government to save the NHS.

This is an election like no other. We are faced with the most right-wing Conservative Government in modern history. The Tories have been taken over by the hardline Europhobes, and have shown an exceptionally cruel streak towards the young, the old and the disabled. They are playing fast and loose with people's jobs and prices in the supermarkets.

Just two years ago the Lib Dem candidate at this election, propped up the Tory Government, voting with them 782 times. Has he apologised? No. The new Lib Dem leader says he'd do it again.

The Lib Dem warmongers voted to bomb Syria and their leader gave his 100% support to Trump's latest bombing raids. They haven't learned.

Just like Theresa May, the LibDems always put party before country.

You know me. I'm an experienced, independent, pro European. I'll stick to my principles, I'll never sell out.
