Zeichner blasts electoral chaos

The Cambridge Labour Party have protested about the nearly 200 voters at risk of losing the chance to vote in the county council elections.

Special packs should have been delivered by to those who applied to vote by post - but a printing blunder meant the council has not been able to send them out.

Instead, officials were rushing around on the day itself trying to deliver the packs by hand. There was also widespread confusion surrounding European voters whose registrations left them disenfranchised.

The electoral chaos was blasted by Daniel Zeichner, Labour's parliamentary spokesman in Cambridge.

He said: "I have received complaints from constituents who fear they will miss out in both the local and European polls."

The council said 190 out of the city's 11,100 registered voters were affected.
