Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Spokesperson Daniel Zeichner has given his support to local postal workers in their dispute with Royal Mail. Mr Zeichner says that no-one wants to see services disrupted and believes that managers should take up the union's offer of arbitration:
"In my experience very few workers want to go on strike - it really is the last resort, and marks a breakdown of trust with managers. A ballot returning 76% in favour of strike action tells me that things have gone seriously wrong within the Royal Mail, and I hope that managers will see sense and agree to arbitration. Postal workers are well aware that changes will be necessary in future, but they've already shown that they can cope with that and have helped the business return a healthy profit this year. But those changes must be made through negotiation - not through threats."
