Daniel Zeichner MP Standing up for Cambridge
Labour suggestions for the future of UK universities will help people across Cambridge, says Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner. Shadow Universities Minister Liam Byrne today published his thoughts on the future of universities, including suggesting a loan-scheme to help post-graduates.
Mr Zeichner argued the case for such a scheme at Labour’s recent National Policy Forum and says that the lack of proper support for post-graduates has become a real barrier for many people:
Liam Byrne’s paper outlines an exciting future for our universities, but also lays down a clear challenge that they have to change to meet the rapidly altering requirements of the modern world. It has been clear for some time that second degrees are the new barrier for many people from dis-advantaged backgrounds. Support is inconsistent and hard to navigate, and there is a growing consensus that a systematic overhaul is required. I welcome Liam Byrne’s commitment to tackle the problem, which will help many hard-pressed future Cambridge postgraduates.
