Labour Parliamentary hopeful Daniel Zeichner invited Shadow Rail Minister Lillian Greenwood MP to Cambridge to discuss Government plans for “sub-standard” trains on the Cambridge to King’s Cross service.

Current plans for new trains from 2018 mean there will be no tables between seats or on the back of them, no wifi on trains nor a guarantee of track-side wifi, no power sockets, narrower aisles and more crowded seating.

Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate, Daniel Zeichner, said: “These plans downgrade our trains to a suburban-style service even though Cambridge deserves an intercity-standard service.

A Cambridge to Kings Cross season ticket now costs £4648, a rise of 20% since the Coalition Government came to power. But despite the price hikes a poorer service is planned. It’s simply not good enough. In today’s world, busy commuters need to be able to plug in their phones to recharge them and to put a laptop on the table to get online. The next Labour Government will give passengers a voice in how the railways are run. It’s clear commuters need Labour in power to get back on track”
