Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, will join members of the local community to attend the five year celebration of North Cambridge Academy on Friday 20 April from 9:30am. The event will be an opportunity to discuss the improvements made at North Cambridge Academy in the last 5 years and to hear the stories from some of those year 11 students that have been with the school for the full five years.

Mr Zeichner says: “Both the staff and students at North Cambridge Academy have worked incredibly hard to achieve the outcomes we are now seeing. It is a credit to the entire school team, headed by the principal Martin Campbell, that they are seeing such strong results  and I congratulate themon those achievements.”

“North Cambridge Academy serves students that are living in some of the more deprived parts of Cambridge and with that comes a whole host of challenges that North Cambridge Academy has responded effectively to. As well as student outcomes, the school has also done great work to enhance the local community that it serves.”

Since the establishment of NCA, there has been steady progress, with 40 per cent of pupils achieving five A*-C grades in 2013 and 60 per cent in 2014. In 2017 North Cambridge Academy was rated in the top 30 per cent of schools nationally for progress.

Martin Campbell, Principal of North Cambridge Academy, said: “I’d like to thank everybody who made the time to join our event, celebrating North Cambridge Academy’s fifth anniversary since joining Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust. Our school has progressed greatly in this time, making significant investment in the school building and our teachers, which is ultimately improving outcomes for our students.

“In the five years since becoming North Cambridge Academy, we have greatly improved our profile both within the local community and on a national level. NCA is now in the top 30 per cent of schools in the country for progress made by students and for a school of its context, it is placed in the top 12 per cent of schools nationally.”

In its most recent Ofsted report, in 2014, the academy gained a ‘Good’ rating overall, where the leadership and management were deemed ‘Outstanding’. The inspectors also reported on the ‘transformational impact on standard’, just 18 months after North Cambridge Academy opened. The school was also crowned the ‘most improved secondary school in the Whole Education Network’ for its Key Stage 4 outcomes in 2014, demonstrating the improvements made as part of CMAT.

The positive improvements have also been seen in the school’s physical infrastructure. In February 2016, following a £10 million investment, North Cambridge Academy moved into its new buildings, further enhancing its student’s education.  Since then NCA has partnered with Cambridge Gymnastics, Anglia Ruskin University and Norwich City Football Club.  This year also sees the opening of the brand new floodlit Tennis Court. These facilities benefit not only the school pupils but the wider community as a whole.

The celebration event includes arts and gymnastics displays, a tour of the science lab, choir performance and speeches from the Principal.
