Daniel Zeichner, Member of Parliament for Cambridge, has welcomed news from local primary schools that, after reviewing the possibility of academising, they have decided to remain with the Local Education Authority.

The leadership team and the Governing Bodies of the Spinney Primary School, Mayfield Primary School and Fulbourne Primary School had been assessing the possibility of forming its own Multi Academy Trust (MAT). After extensive consideration, the schools have today decided to withdraw their intention to pursue this and remain maintained schools. 

Daniel Zeichner said: “I am pleased to hear that after careful consideration these Cambridge city schools have decided that the best course of action is to stick with the Local Authority. I am aware that a lot of work has gone into developing the concept of a new Cambridge MAT, however a change of policy direction from the Government on academisation means that these schools can be confident that they will continue to receive the support they need as maintained schools.”

“I am familiar with both the Spinney and Mayfield and have no doubt that they will continue to work collaboratively and deliver excellent education to their children, with the support from the local authority. It is encouraging to know that the Government will no longer be putting pressure on schools to academise and they can get on doing what they are good at, which is teaching our kids.”
