A massive new road linking Oxford and Cambridge, cutting through environmentally sensitive areas proposed by the Conservative Government, would be cancelled by an incoming Labour Government. Cambridge Labour candidate Daniel Zeichner has secured the support for the policy shift from Labour Shadow Secretary of State for Transport Andy McDonald.

Mr Zeichner says:

“This is great news. The Expressway has been highly controversial – massive new road-building is exactly the wrong approach when we face a climate crisis. I will be backing Labour’s plans for an East-West rail-link between Cambridge and Oxford, a railway that will be public and environmentally friendly.”

Andy McDonald added:

“Oxford Cambridge Expressway is a last-century approach to a 21st century challenge. Labour will cancel the Expressway and build a modern, publicly-owned electric railway.”
