The Prime Minister is riding roughshod over the views of 16 million people who voted remain and has never tried to understand how they feel, Daniel Zeichner MP told the House of Commons today.

Speaking in the Chamber Mr Zeichner said that thousands of Cambridge residents were “proud to be citizens of the EU” and fearful of the erosion of rights they have enjoyed for decades.

The Cambridge MP urged the Prime Minister to go further than his so called “skinny trade deals” and prioritise research collaboration which is so important for the future prosperity of Cambridge and the nation.

He warned that while Universities could end up playing by the rules of the EU, we would have no influence to make or change them.

Speaking after the debate Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Today marks the beginning of the end of our membership of the EU and that makes me deeply sad. But our relationship with our nearest neighbours will always be important. I will continue to fight against this terrible Brexit deal and this terrible Prime Minister and work to ensure we build the best possible relationship with other European countries because our best future lies there, not with America.”
