Let’s re-show the whole 1966 World Cup tournament – that is the idea from Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner, as the BBC announced emergency changes to its schedule.

Their programming will ensure that everyone gets the most up-to-date factual information on Coronavirus around the clock while filming will stop on popular shows such as EastEnders and Casualty
Mr Zeichner said: “I fully support what the BBC is doing to help the country at this difficult time and to provide sound advice and guidance through their trusted news outlets.
But as a sports fan I am missing my weekly Cambridge United fix and all the other matches I tune into.
There are plenty of gaps in the schedule as fixtures have rightly been cancelled and postponed. So how about some repeats of sports matches?
I’d like to see a  re-run of the whole 1966 world cup. While we all know the final result, it would be great to relive the whole journey, and savour the dramas some of us enjoyed then, and share them with a whole new generation.”

Mr Zeichner has contacted the BBC and submitted a formal written question to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
