It is time to consign the proposed polluting road between Cambridge and Oxford to the dustbin of history says Labour MP Daniel Zeichner.

Mr Zeichner held a meeting with the Transport Minister about the “Oxford to Cambridge Expressway” this week and in a follow up letter the minister again confirmed this week that further development of this scheme has been “paused”.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “I welcomed the pause last year, but I think it is now about time they stopped pausing and knocked it on the head.

We don’t need controversial, polluting new roads at a time of climate crisis, especially one that links the same places as the new East-West rail link. I thought ministers had come to that conclusion too, but if they have, they need to have the courage to say so.

Then we can put this whole episode behind us and move on to concentrating on the rail solution, ensuring that it is electrified, and brought in on time and on budget alongside more investment in other rail improvements, buses and cycling.”
