Daniel Zeichner MP has officially launched The Daily Bread Co-op’s new zero waste range as he pours porridge oats into a reusable container.

The shop has invested in new food dispensers and scales. This will allow customers to buy loose products in their own containers that they bring to the store and so cut packaging waste. Twenty organic products including staples such as porridge oats, rice, pulses, pasta and pumpkin seeds are part of the initial launch. The Co-op hope to add additional products in the future.

The launch is taking place during Co-op Fortnight when co-ops across Britain inspire thousands of people up and down the country to work together.

Daniel Zeichner MP who held a Parliamentary debate earlier this week on reducing packaging waste said:

“More and more people are concerned about how to cut out excess packaging when they do the weekly shop. Congratulations to the Daily Bread Co-op for leading the way. Co-operation is what the world really needs right now and everyone at the Daily Bread Co-op would love it if as many shoppers as possible joined in, creating a chain reaction of positive stories as they talk to friends and family and help save the planet.”
