Daniel Zeichner MP has received dozens of emails and phone calls from worried constituents.

One such email said: “I feel very frustrated at the moment as I am currently serving customers face to face with all the risks attached, as my retailer employer has decided to open. My company is called xxxxxx We are definitely a NON ESSENTIAL SHOP… But at 8.30am this morning our money grabbing owner decided to take advantage of all other shop closures, who are thinking of their staff and customers health in these dreadful times… I find this disgraceful that we have been put in this situation when so many off us are terrified off catching this virus.”

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Most bosses are doing the right thing but it is clear a selfish minority are not. I have had constituents say they are required to go to work because their boss is stretching the rules to keep their shop open and employees are having requests to work at home denied. These bosses are putting profit before health. It is not good enough for the government just to tell workers to speak to their employer, this isn’t going to be fixed by a cosy chat. Employees need the government to set up an independent point of contact so they can raise their concerns and then these matters can be taken up with employers. Better still of course, they should join a trade union.”
