George Osborne was in Cambridge last week trumpeting investment in a new polar research ship. Speaking on BBC Look East, Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner welcomed any additional funding, but pointed out that whereas investment in science doubled during the period of Labour Government, it has been frozen by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, resulting in a real-terms cut of around 15%:

“Labour had a ten year funding plan for science designed to give the consistency that researchers and investors need. The Coalition started by slashing capital investment in science. Now a few weeks before an election, the Chancellor shows up dangling some cash -; that is no way to run science funding.”
