Radio Cambridgeshire today highlighted the report from Oxfam that reveals the massive growth in use of foodbanks – a tale of two Britains. Cambridge Labour Parliamentary Candidate Daniel Zeichner told Andie Harper that in Cambridge, foodbank use had doubled last year and the year before, with over 1650 children fed by the foodbank last year. He argued that something significant has changed in the last few years, with a very changed labour market relying at the bottom on low pay and zero-hours contracts, which leave families with little left over to buy food.

While praising their work, he has promised those who run the local foodbank that he wants to see them put out of business, and said that children in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire should not be relying on foodbanks.
