New MP Daniel Zeichner will join a team of Cambridge’s refuse collectors this Friday 22 May. Mr Zeichner is keen to see all parts of Cambridge, not just the parts on the traditional tourist trail.

Kitted out in a high vis uniform, he will take his turn emptying wheelie bins full of Cambridge recycling and rubbish. He will talk to staff about their heavy-duty work, operational hazards and pension concerns.

Daniel will also experience first-hand some of the other issues that refuse workers experience while out on their shifts including navigating Cambridge’s narrow streets.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Most people don’t give much thought to what happens after we throw our rubbish into the bin -; we just expect it to be collected and dealt with – which it is by hard working public servants. Likewise our street cleaners transform our city overnight. As MP this gives me a unique insight into a part of Cambridge that is usually hidden.”
