Daniel Zeichner MP joined local residents and councillors outside the Guildhall as they protested against plans to turn off Cambridge’s street lights.

The MP joined residents holding lanterns, bike lights, torches and fairy lights and walked from the Guildhall to Shire Hall to register their anger that streets across Cambridge are set to be plunged into darkness.

Conservative-led Cambridgeshire County Council plan to switch off Cambridge streetlights from midnight to 6am every night, and to further dim all streets.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Many residents have contacted me with safety fears.

Streetlights ensure that people feel safe walking home, especially at this time of the year when the nights are drawing in. I urge the council to think again. This plan is terrible for Cambridge.”
