The national spotlight has been turned onto Cambridgeshire’s doomed £750 million NHS Uniting Care contract which collapsed last month, as File on 4, the investigative BBC programme looked for answers.

The role of the “strategic projects team” which brokered the deal was highlighted. This team were branded as “hired guns” by File on 4 and called “the ‘ninja’ NHS privatisers” by transparency campaigners.

File on 4 revealed that future contracts nationwide were on hold as enquiries take place to establish why the contract was allowed to go ahead.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “It is difficult to get to the bottom of what the “strategic projects team” are up to. As the people who messed up both Hinchingbrooke and Cambridgeshire’s Older People’s Care I have to say their interventions read as a catalogue of disasters. I am pressing hard to shine the spotlight on the NHS’s privatisation advocates through the Audit Office investigation.”
