Coding FestivalDaniel Zeichner MP has shown his support for FXP (Future Experience Points) Festival, a computer game concept and development competition for school and college students created by Cambridge-based companies Conscious Communications, Jagex, Rizing Games, and Hacklab.

Aimed at students aged between 14 and 19, FXP Festival provides an exciting hands-on game development experience and an insight into the careers offered by the creative digital industry. The Festival was piloted across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in June 2016 and is now open to entries from across the UK for June 2017.

Daniel’s support follows his visit to games studio Ninja Theory and trade industry association UKIE (UK Interactive Entertainment) in Cambridge.

Daniel, who is Chair of the Data Analytics All-Party Parliamentary Group, said: “I worked in IT as a programmer years before becoming an MP and I understand the importance of having the right skills coming into the workplace. FXP Festival is a fantastic opportunity for school and college students to see what the tech sector can offer them, speak directly to industry professionals and talk to other students with the same passions.

“The Festival is also a great opportunity for the region to showcase what we do. Cambridge’s technology sector is worth over £2 billion to the UK economy according to the 2017 Tech Nation report. To maintain this impressive contribution, organisations need to create a pipeline of skilled individuals -; the Festival is the perfect place to start!”

Alison Taylor, Managing Director of Conscious Communications, said: “Our thanks go to Daniel for his support. His backing solidifies the importance of what we are trying to achieve. We are all so passionate about the Festival and the opportunities it provides for individuals who otherwise have limited opportunities. We look forward to more organisations getting involved supporting this fantastic project.”
