Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge has pledged his support for campaign group SolidariTee ahead of this week’s ‘Day of SolidariTee’ campaign, when people up and down the country will wear a custom-made T-shirt ins a bid to raise awareness and money for the work of Advocates Abroad; an NGO that provides legal aid and representation to refugess in Greece and Turkey.
SolidiTee is a national fundraising and campaign group founded by Cambridge University students, Tiara Ataii. The campaign group sell T-shirts at £10 each, which will fund one-night accommodation for a human rights lawyer in Greece. Mr Zeichner met with Tiara, the President and founder of SolidaiTee, to hear about the progress of the campaign and to take a photo with the campaign T-Shirt.
Daniel said, “it is a real pleasure to be supporting SolidariTee in their quest to help Advocates Abroad provide what is really a basic human right – the right to legal representation.
Refugees already go through the most unbelievable trials and tribulations in order to flee harrowing situations and not having access to legal support in a foreign country can be the difference between being granted asylum and being returned to the country you are trying to escape.
I applaud the work of Tiara and others at SolidariTee for galvanising this campaign that seeks to help some of the world’s most vulnerable.”
