Daniel was appointed Shadow Minister for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in January 2020. His responsibilities include:
- agri-science and innovation
- lead for Rural Payments Agency (RPA), Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), Marine Management Organisation (MMO), Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) and The Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA)
He was previously Shadow Transport Minister (2015-17) and a member of the Petitions Committee, Transport Committee, and Science and Technology Committee. He was elected Labour MP for Cambridge in May 2015.
Daniel is a life-long environmentalist, with an enduring interest in agriculture and food issues. In 2021, Daniel led for the Labour Party in Parliament on the Agricultural Bill and was a member of the committee scrutinising the Environment Bill. He has recently spoken for Labour in many debates on food security and wider environmental issues, including challenging the Government’s targets on air and water quality.
