Daniel Zeichner MP responds to the Secretary of State for Exiting the EU’s statement, in which David Davis MP announced his resignation from the Government, stating that the Prime Minister’s Brexit plan announced at Chequers last Friday would leave Parliament in “at best a weak negotiating position”.

Mr Zeichner says: “All these divisions in the Conservative party show what a shambles Brexit is – it’s clear that the government’s plans to leave the EU are still more full of questions than answers. It is becoming increasingly clear that we have so much more to lose through Brexit than was originally understood two years ago during the referendum campaign, with many businesses and institutions speaking out about the importance of continued collaboration with the EU for jobs.”

“The Davis resignation shows that for the Tory Brexiteers, crashing out of the EU is preferable to any kind of sensible compromise. It is time to go back to the country and let the people decide whether they are prepared to bear the cost of any more of this Tory Brexit shambles.”
