“This mosque celebrates the best of Cambridge – a space not just for Muslims, but also for the public, to celebrate our diversity and to bring the community together. It’s also the first eco-friendly mosque in Europe, leading the way for future building design in this country and in the world.”
Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge recently dropped in on Cambridge’s new purpose built eco mosque to see the finishing touches that have been put to the building. The Mosque, which has recently seen a soft opening, is located on Mill Road and is expected to have an official opening in May 2019.
The Cambridge Mosque is the first purpose built eco mosque in Europe, with the building project run by the Cambridge Mosque Trust, an organisation that aims to enhance the welfare of the city’s estimated 6,000 Muslims. Although not yet officially open, the first prayer at the new mosque took place earlier last month (March 15 2019).
Daniel Zeichner says, “I was delighted to visit the eco mosque and see the final touches put in place. It has come a long way since my visit last year when it was still a building site, and I am grateful to The Cambridge Mosque Trust for inviting me to see the progress. It is a truly stunning building.“
