As experts warn that the NHS is heading into one of the worst winters ever, figures show that 4559 Cambridge patients are already stuck on hospital waiting lists.

Cambridge’s Daniel Zeichner has warned that a forthcoming “winter crisis” is entirely predictable, but that it could be stopped with a cash injection.

The Labour Party is today pledging a £26 billion real terms healthcare funding boost to provide safe quality care, recruit thousands more doctors, nurses and other health care professionals, and rebuild old facilities.

Ahead of the announcement, Daniel Zeichner said:

“Hard working doctors, nurses and health staff are doing an amazing job in difficult circumstances. Now, as the temperatures plummet, people are already predicting a winter crisis. But this shouldn’t be an annual event, and it doesn’t have to be.

“I fear we are back to the bad old days of long waiting lists meaning patients left in pain and discomfort and cold weather being enough to tip the health service over the edge.

“Local doctors know you can’t trust Boris Johnson with our NHS, that is why they booed him out of Addenbrooke’s. There is choice at this election of a Conservative government who have proved they can’t be trusted with our NHS or a Labour government that will give our health service the investment it needs for the future.”
