Cambridge United have won the English Football League 2’s inaugural community project of the year award.

The club received its award for the Community Trust’s Mind Your Head programme at the House of Commons today at a special ceremony attended by city MP Daniel Zeichner.

The programme, which is delivered through Cambridge United Community Trust in partnership with Cambridge youth mental-health charity Centre 33, aims at helping secondary school children deal better with stress and anxiety.

The youngsters talk about mental health as well as discussing how social media can make them feel happy or worried.

It has been delivered to more than 1,000 secondary school students.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “U’s fans have had a spring in their step over the last few weeks, but as a true community club what happens off the pitch matters to fans too. This was an excellent programme tackling issues around mental health that sadly are affecting more young people. Well done to the team at the Cambridge United community trust for taking home this silverware.”
